Maintain and Grow
You have a website up and you have a marketing plan, now it is time to maintain and improve your site. Keeping a current, modern website requires upkeep. You want to keep content fresh and appealing to potential viewers. If a person comes to your site a second time and sees nothing has changed or there is nothing immediately new, the odds of them coming back a third time will drop dramatically. If however they see something new, the chances of them coming back again improve greatly.
Below are some ways to help maintain your site.
- Keep Your Content Updated. Update your content as much as possible. Keep people wanting to come back to see the latest information. This can be new banners, blog posts or articles. It is probably most important to update content on the home page. If the only updates are deeply embedded in the site people will probably never get there. You want to funnel your traffic and new content is a good way to do this.
- Keep Track of Your Keyword Saturation. Make sure to regularly test how well your keyword phrases are doing to bring in traffic. If they are not doing well you need to change them and try different combinations. Of course you always want to research the best key phrases to use but only through testing will you know for sure how well they bring in traffic and how that traffic converts.
- Blog on a Regular Basis. Blogging is a powerful tool, use it as much as you can. Do not hesitate to create new blog posts as often as you can. Pay attention to keywords when you are blogging, every blog you create adds a layer of content to your site with its own keywords and tags.
- Build Your Site on a CMS (Content Management System) System Like Word Press. Try using a CMS system like Word Press to build your site on. If you use Word Press you will easily be able to create new blog posts and pages for your site as well as edit existing ones. The back office of systems is easy to use with graphical interfaces.
- Use Technology To Keep Your Site Updated. You can use various technology to help keep your site content fresh. For example you can use Twitter widgets or blog replies to display dynamically updated content on the home page.
- Implement User Interactivity You can add user interactive applications to your site so that others can create content for you. Extras such as forums, user login / profile systems , messaging plugins , and article moderators are just a few examples of ways the public can interact with your site to help keep content current.
- Send Content to Your Mailing Lists. Send news letters and promotional mailers out to your list on a regular basis. Remind people why they should go to your site.
Find Your Groove.
Try these and other techniques to keep your site fresh and attractive, with up to date content. Test on a regular basis to see what types of improvements work best for your projects. Get into a groove and routine that works well for you and remain faithful to it. If you do not keep up with your site it will grow stagnant and not produce results to it’s true potential. Maintaining your site may be the most important thing you can do to retain clientele once initially established.
